Data Solutions for the front line
Dawn Read takes a closer look at the data solutions proposition offered by O2 Airwave...
Beyond any shadow of doubt, the O2 Airwave network is delivering, today, data solutions to the front line. The network has built, tested and deployed real world data solutions, such as PNC access, AVLS, Patient Telemetry, Dispatching & Mobilising applications.
O2 Airwave has confirmed also that its’ dedicated network capacity does not compromise existing voice services and it is working hard to expand its front line data solutions.
A complete proposition
The data solution proposition includes a complete and fully managed suite of devices, applications, network access, integration and support.
At the forefront of the solution is the TETRA enabled tablet PC, a unique device developed specifically for the O2 Airwave Network. Developed in partnership with Outside Edge, the Airwave Data Companion is a robust tablet PC with integrated TETRA radio to enable secure packet data communications. In addition, the intuitive user interface allows access to the range of applications which comprise O2’s front line data solutions.
At the heart of the data solutions is the Airwave Mobile Applications Gateway (MAG), developed in partnership with Siemens.
The Airwave MAG can host an extensive range of applications and provides intelligent interrogation of national and local information sources. It also provides access control, device management and user management creating a powerful user experience. For example, the results of a PNC enquiry can be transferred automatically to another application such as crime reporting. This reduces keying duplications and errors thus improving accuracy and efficiency.
Rendering the technology ‘invisible’ the Airwave Mag allows front line personnel to focus on their roles. In addition it automatically sizes formats and present information to any appropriate user device, be it an Airwave Data Companion, MDT, and XDAII or any other future device.
Data solutions trial
Confident of its resilience, O2 Airwave invite users to trust in their own experience through a trial, which include the chance to use the world’s first TETRA enabled tablet PC, the Airwave Data Companion.
Commenting on the trial, O2 Airwave states, “With our fully managed trial programme, developed in partnership with Siemens, your force can be up and running with minimal overhead. The trial package includes devices, software, applications and network access; all fully managed by O2 Airwave.”
Do you have any users signed up for the trial yet?
We have an ongoing pilot with Lancashire Constabulary, they are keen to be the first to trial the Airwave Data Companion. A number of police forces have expressed their desire to trial, we are currently evaluating how best to programme those trials.
It is a fully managed trials programme. No local integration is necessary as the service uses national gateways and databases. Airwave PNC/SCRO Access and Airwave Validate are the core applications. Airwave Validate is a powerful application to aid in the positive identification of individuals.
It provides access to the electoral roll, postcodes database and detailed mapping. Each trial comprises 10 Airwave Data Companions and has a duration of 90 days.
What response have you had to the launch?
There has been a tremendous response from police forces and other agencies. The worlds first handheld TETRA data device has really captured the imagination. Additionally the supplier community has responded very positively.
Is O2 still looking for users to join the trials programme?
There has been an excellent response to the trials programme already but we would welcome any additional interest.
