HUMBER COASTGUARD ASSISTING WITH FLOOD RESPONSE

June 26 - Humber Coastguard has been working with other emergency responders throughout today to assist people who have been affected by the severe weather throughout the Humberside region.

In north east Lincolnshire Coastguard Rescue Teams have been assisting with the evacuation of large numbers of people living in Humberston Fitties area and homes close to the River Freshney are close to being flooded.

Several people have requested assistance as they have been trapped in cars. Coastguard teams and rescue helicopters have been involved in the rescue of some of them who have been assisted to safety.

In the Hull area, a man was evacuated from his house by the Rescue Helicopter with the assistance of Hull Coastguard. The house was 4 ft deep in water. The man was taken to a care home in Hull.

Humber Coastguard requested the Humber Rescue Lifeboat to launch and assist Hull pensioners from flood conditions. The Hull Coastguard Rescue Team assisted with a wide variety of incidents including the evacuation of many people from their homes.

Withernsea and Hornsea Coastguard Rescue Teams have been out in their communities assisting residents. The villages of Withernsea and Hornsea have been cut off due to flood conditions. The Hornsea Coastguard Rescue team have recovered a person from a car. The tractor which is usually used to launch Hornsea Rescue was also used to rescue some school children who were stranded on a bus.

Humber Coastguard Watch Manager Bev Allen says: “It has been a busy day with major disruptions to homes, travel and communications in the region, with many people in dangerous situations. We are pleased to be assisting Police and local authorities with the response to the floods.”
