Project manager appointed for training and accreditation

With effect of the 5th of this month, Brian Hills has been appointed project manager for BAPCO’s accreditation and training programme.

Commenting on the announcement, Tim O’Connor, vice president of BAPCO and the National Lead working to ACPO on the Accreditation and Training Project said, “This is an important step for BAPCO in that we are working on the National scene to provide a requirement for control rooms and also for our members, i.e., control room operators accreditation training facilities.”

“Brian will work with me as a member of the BAPCO Executive, to which I will report on the progress of the programme.”

The reports will also be submitted to ACPO, which underlines an important partnership between the two associations to produce training and accreditation for their members. But perhaps more importantly all of the emergency services will benefit from highly trained personnel.

O’Connor added, “Brian brings project management experience to his role within BAPCO since he has been running the recent project on National Call Handling Standards, which allows accreditation of training a seamless link.”

Commenting on his role, Hills said, “For some time there has been a Government objective in national call handling standards. In order to establish these standards, I see my role in having the standards accredited with a generic approach to call handling training. This will then be available for use by all emergency services and designed to meet their customer needs.”

Andrew Norton, president, BAPCO added, “The appointment of Brian as project manager highlights that we are serious about training and accreditation for the association. We are placing funds into member benefits at a real grass roots level.”

It is anticipated that this programme will also raise the profile of BAPCO and strengthen the membership.

Looking at the benefits BAPCO will derive from Hill’s appointment, Norton said, “It will raise our standing within all emergency services as their control centre staff will have a formal path to accreditation for their role. It also means that authorities will have a measure to use when recruiting staff. I believe that such a programme will also help us to deliver our commitment to European development in that we will be able to bring our programme to the table.”

Concluding Norton said, “I'm delighted with the appointment of Brian Hills as BAPCO project manager for our Accreditation and Training Project. Brian brings with him a wealth of experience within this area, I'm looking forward to delivering this major member benefit to the Association.”

Concluding, O’Connor said, “I am fully supportive of Brian’s appointment and I have no doubts about his ability to deliver.”
