Intergraph to integrate ICCS communications and command & control systems in a single control room, Airwave-ready environment Backup centre and remote command points will ensure command continuity and flexibility...

Intergraph is to integrate I/CAD, its intelligent command and control system at North Wales Police (NWP) with a Frequentis 302OMCC ICCS (integrated communications control system) supplied by Intergraph, to enable NWP's move later this year from three remote control centre locations to a single control room, Intergraph announced today. The Airwave-ready command and control environment will handle both 999 and non-emergency calls. Intergraph will also provide maintenance services.

The move will increase the overall number of NWP control room operator seats from 56 to 93, including 11 training /overflow seats, with the facility to increase to 130 seats. There will be a further 22 seats at a separate backup centre with parallel systems to ensure business continuity - plus eight remote seats accessible from a variety of command points and via ISDN dial-up. NWP will have a total capacity of 160 seats. The new environment will also allow NWP to provide control services for Fire and Ambulance in the region if required, from the same centre.

Records management

Intergraph is also integrating NWP's records management (RMS) and rostering systems in the new, one-stop policing environment.

"We will no longer be geographically bound by multiple control room locations", says NWP project manager CI Gareth Wynne. "The technology that Intergraph is providing will help to minimise the 'big bang' effect of the move from three centres to one - because it will allow us to continue to run analogue radio on the ICCS system while training our staff in readiness for our migration to the Airwave digital."

The ICCS system being integrated by Intergraph uses the latest generation of voice communication technology from Frequentis. Optimised for use in command and control centres, it is notable for its high voice quality, user friendliness and resilient system architecture, which ensures that there is no interruption to connections. This is vital when officers on the beat rely on immediate and uninterrupted support from control.
