New Director of Government for Microsoft
(March 2007) After four years at Microsoft, and two years as Head of Regional and Local Government at Microsoft, Nigel Bates is leaving Microsoft this month to work with one of Microsoft’s partners. Nigel will remain closely involved with local government in his new role and it will allow him to avoid the current long commute between his home and our Reading offices.
Nigel has been pivotal in driving Microsoft's activity in the Local Government sector and has worked on a number of exciting projects with local government customers and partners to take examples of best practice in areas such as customer relationship management, shared services, information sharing solutions, to other authorities.
Nigel and the team have also worked to develop and oversee a number of new initiatives, including the Shared Learning Group and the Black Country Consortium.
Graham Harrop has been appointed as the new Director of Government in Microsoft’s UK Public Sector organisation. This is a new role for Microsoft in the UK and brings together both the Local and Regional Government activity and responsibility for the criminal justice, defence and central government sectors. This will enable Microsoft to better support the delivery of joined-up services for citizens as envisaged in the Transformational Government Agenda. A key focus area for Graham is how Microsoft can help government customers get more from their investment in our technologies.
Graham’s professional career spans over 23 years of diverse sales, services and business management experience within Microsoft, Honeywell, Oracle and GEC. Previously Graham led Microsoft’s UK Enterprise Services Sales team. Graham has spent much of his career dealing with Public Sector partners and is a passionate advocate of the role of technology in providing good citizen experiences and driving efficiency in the delivery of Government services.
