World map makers to keep Royal appointment
HRH The Earl of Wessex will officially open a rare conference of the world's leading map makers in Southampton next month. He will meet delegates from mapping organizations meeting at Ordnance Survey's head office.
The Earl will be hosted by Vanessa Lawrence, Ordnance Survey's Director General and
Chief Executive, who welcomed him for a previous tour of the head office in January 2004. The conference agenda includes a presentation on how digital map data supported the recent tsunami relief effort in Sri Lanka. David Spackman, Director of charity MapAction, will explain how emergency mapping services helped depict the situation on the ground and prepare the way for reconstruction of the affected areas.
