Kenwood demystifies digital two-way radio in public safety operations

Kenwood launches new Nexedge digital radio communications website with market specific solutions and case studies.

With the ever present threats from civil unrest, active protest, terrorism, natural and man-made disasters, public safety agencies around the world are stretched to their limits in resourcing to manage situations in ways that will protect the public from injury or harm.

When a disaster strikes, police, fire, ambulance, medical, and other services need to be able to work together in harness and communicate with each other to coordinate efforts.

It is of course mission critical that a reliable two-way radio service is available and the key to effective two-way radio communications in public safety is the interoperability of systems employed by the various first response services, the capacity of the network and coverage - any delay or drop-out in communications could have catastrophic consequences.

However, one of the issues with two-way radio communications is that the technological advances, most especially since the introduction of digital transmission, have served to fuel a perception that it is both complex and expensive to deploy.

To demystify the benefits of digital technology, Kenwood has launched a new website dedicated to its Nexedge digital two-way hand portable walkie talkie radios, mobile in-vehicle units, repeaters, integrated systems and networks.

Commenting on the initiative, Mike Atkins, Managing Director of Kenwood European Headquarters (Communications) said "We recognise that two-way radio is a tool employed in a client's business, not their preoccupation, so we wanted to ensure that it was more easily accessible and to guide potential clients to a better understanding of the benefits of digital two-way radio and Nexedge in particular through market specific insights, relevant product information and case histories of the system in use. We also wanted to provide a more personal service and have included an online enquiry facility which will allow us to tailor our responses precisely to a specific requirement".

Kenwood's solutions are designed to provide fail-safe radio communications systems in public safety applications. Infinitely scalable, multi-channel trunked networks using wireless microwave or IP connectivity (as the primary or back-up method) ensures reliable service even when wired communications lines are rendered inoperable.
