Cassidian, Emiraje and Khalifa University complete the first phase of establishing a Cyber Operations Centre of Excellence
Cassidian, Emiraje and Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research have completed the first phase of establishing a Cyber Operations Centre of Excellence agreed under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed in May 2010.
The Centre of Excellence is intended to help increase the intellectual capital in cyber technology areas within Khalifa University in particular and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) more generally. The Centre of Excellence will provide research and demonstration capabilities for cyber activities and developments. It will particularly focus on Cryptology, Forensics and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) security.
The collaboration programme specified within the MoU also includes various activities such as an agreed collaborative research programme, summer internship opportunities for Khalifa University students in various Cassidian facilities, a programme of lectures on the topic of cyber security by visiting specialists in the field and the sponsorship of appropriate postgraduate studies.
Emiraje Systems L.L.C. is a Joint Venture established in 2009 between C4 Advanced Solutions L.L.C. (C4AS), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Emirates Advanced Investments (EAI) group, and Cassidian SAS (formerly EADS Defence and Security Systems SAS) for the purpose of building a strong Lead Systems Integration capability within the UAE and bringing the most advanced C4ISR solutions to UAE customers and to the wider circle of Middle East customers.
This partnership is also a clear cornerstone of the EAI and Cassidian strategy to efficiently address the key importance of transfer of technology to the UAE as a success factor for the development and mastering of strategic and nationally sensitive defence and security systems.
Khalifa University was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision, which aims at building a knowledge-based economy that effectively contributes to the development of the UAE.
Khalifa University’s main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates with another campus in Sharjah, and presently offers bachelor degrees in Computer, Communication, Electronic, Software, Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering, master’s and doctorate degree programmes in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, and a master’s degree in Information Security. In the future, Khalifa University will also offer degrees in other disciplines of Engineering, Logistics and Management, Life Sciences and Homeland Security.
Moreover, Khalifa University will include research centres in disciplines such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Energy, Nanotechnology, Aerospace and Health Sciences.
Khalifa University is open to men and women of all nationalities with particular emphasis being placed on educating young UAE nationals.
