E.ON Finland Oyj has chosen Sepura digital radios and the TETRA-based VIRVE network to improve the trouble management of its power plants, gas and district heating networks and 6,500km of electricity cables.

This contract was won in conjunction with Insalko, Sepura’s officialpartner in Finland. E.ON is part of the world's largest investor-owned energy service provider, E.ON Energie AG. With nearly 500 employees spread across the country, effective communications are extremely important and their ageing VHF system was approaching end-of-life. After extensive evaluation of a number of analog and digital alternatives, E.ON decided that a Sepura radio system operating on the national VIRVE network would make the most economical and advantageous long-term solution. Jarno Ström, Manager of Network Operations commented, "Reliable and easy-to-use mobile communications are essential for trouble management, network operation and construction, and to facilitate communication with authorities and the national grid company (Fingrid) during major network failures." The new Sepura radios will support E.ON’s research and development work in IT infrastructure and mobile applications, as well as offer a nationwide platform for mobile communication and data transfer that will reduce the costs of mobile telephony. Commenting on the contract, Kenneth Hubner, Sepura’s Regional Director, "E.ON Finland is a great win for us, and a testament to the strength of our partnership with Insalko. Together we were able to put together a compelling package that convinced E.ON that we could meet, and exceed, all of their requirements.”
