Devon County Council selects Siemens Enterprise Communications for £2million managed voice and data service

Siemens Enterprise Communications Group (SEN Group) has been selected to provide a £2 million OpenScale Managed Voice and Data service to Devon County Council in accordance with Devon’s shared service agenda. It will provide a robust, scalable voice and data network, which includes SEN Group’s flagship OpenScape Unified Communications Server technology, capable of quickly and securely providing fast resilient bandwidth to locations and other authorities within the county.

By converging the existing voice and data network and services, the council will benefit from significant cost efficiencies plus also having a single Managed Services contract with SEN Group will allow strict service level agreements to be achieved. In addition, the increased functionality of the OpenScape Voice platform will support a flexible working environment within the council that will reduce costs, increase staff productivity, deliver environmental benefits through reduced travel, enable the council to handle citizens’ needs more flexibly and improve business continuity across its communications platforms.

Andy Clark, Head of Public Sector, SEN Group comments: “With their investment in a market leading voice and data network under a single Managed Service agreement, Devon County Council has demonstrated its clear focus on the serving needs of the local area. The secure, Open Standards nature of the OpenScape technology will enable the facilitation of the shared service agenda, incorporating the communications needs of the council, schools, health authorities and businesses across the county, a key requirement of local authorities in the UK.  Over time, the infrastructure will be enhanced according to the requirements of the county and we look forward to working in close partnership with Devon.”

Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Workforce, Performance and Communications said: “This new Devon network delivers the communications foundation which will meet the future needs of Devon County Council and put us in the best possible technical position to deliver services to the people of Devon.

“Not only will it provide staff with faster connections to applications, it will be more resilient, ensuring there is less ‘down time’ on the network in the future. An added benefit of the new Devon network is that it provides for the equitable use of technology across Devon, opening up improved access in rural areas to small businesses which previously had very poor links and service.  We are also working with our partners in the public sector to encourage them to take advantage of the new network, enabling greater and more effective partnership working.”
