Roundtable on mobile data preview
Preview of upcoming roundtable conference on mobile policing at the Houses of Parliament on Thursday, October 15, chaired by David Davies, a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee, and featuring senior police officers from Bedfordshire and Thames Valley Police, organised by Research In Motion (RIM), manufacturers of the BlackBerry hand-held device in use among these forces, and many others around the UK.
The debate included discussions on the benefits of being able to access the PNC, the increased visibility of police officers that the devices facilitate, and the ability to provide officers with dynamic shift briefings while they are on patrol. There was also open and frank debates on the cost considerations of each device, the management of the handsets among officers, and the health and safety issues that must be considered when deploying the devices to frontline officers. David Davies also offered his thoughts and opinions on the stance a Conservative Government in power would take on further investment in mobile data.
