ACPO-APA Show Preview
Make sure you're ahead of the game for the ACPO-APA Summer Conference & International Policing Seminar on July 8-9 at Manchester Central with our show preview.
The rise in sophisticated technology used by police, particularly the increase in mobile data, has proven the need for police forces to keep up to speed with the latest technological advances. The International Policing Exhibition is the ideal place to see and sample the policing technology of the future from over 160 top specialist suppliers.
Data analysis and increased efficiency
Panasonic will present two new models from their MK3 Toughbook range. The CF-30 and CF-19 models aim to boost functionality and flexibility by promising a hard drive that is protected against heat, cold, humidity, dust and vibrations, and optimised batteries with up to nine hours use from a single charge. Both come complete with a toughened casing, promising no ill effects when dropped from up to 90cm, even when open. Both toughbook models will be on show on Stand B10 at the International Policing Exhibition.
Dell and Logica will be there to discuss their latest data processes. Dell promises a new approach to digital forensics that aims to simplify the current handling and processing of suspect data and information. The new approach promises to allow analysts and digital forensic experts to identify evidence more quickly and efficiently, to help secure arrests and convictions. Find out more on Stand F21. Logica has won a seven-year contract, in a three-way partnership, to design, build and operate the Police National Database (PND) to improve operational effectiveness across the police service. The new database will enable police services across the UK to support public protection by electronically sharing, accessing and searching existing local intelligence. Find out more on Stand E30.
Mobile Communications
Exhibitors including Vodafone, Brother and new exhibitor Jiba Jiba will offer the latest in mobile data. Vodafone’s team of experts will be on Stand F90 to discuss their latest communications solutions, designed to help organisations meet mobility requirements securely and efficiently without compromising on costs. Brother will be demonstrating its MPrint range of mobile printers designed to support mobile workers, enabling them to print quickly and efficiently at professional quality while on the move. The Mprint micro printer, which uses Bluetooth technology, is ideal for issuing documentation such as fixed penalty notices, and is already used by Transport for London, British Transport Police and Lothian and Borders Police. JibaJaba will demonstrate a new Bluetooth messaging system designed specifically for police and public service operations, which claims to deliver messages targeted to a specific audience in a quick and efficient way, at no incremental cost. For more details and to find out how the system was used to engage youth and help solve street crime, visit Stand F1a.
On the move: latest police vehicles, helicopters and bikes
The latest in police vehicles will also be on display including an all terrain Range Rover Sport police vehicle from Futronics and Land Rover, which contains the high powered eMC2 integrated mobile data solution on board. Accessed by the neatly fitted high bright touch screen on the dashboard, police officers are able to access and run several applications, police databases and crime reporting software such as ANPR, PNC, DVR, and CCTV simultaneously on a single platform. The single intuitive touch screen also gives users full control of lights and sirens, communications, cameras and SatNav – eliminating the clutter and equipment in the vehicle, and reducing distractions. The 4x4 police vehicle of the future will also be on show on the Futronics Stand C2. Other vehicles on display at the event include Skoda’s new Superb range and the latest in police helicopters from the world’s number 1 civil and parapublic helicopter manufacturer, Eurocopter.
To keep pace with the latest advances in police technology, all visitors are welcome to attend free seminars. These include ‘Taking the Paperwork out of Policing’ which explores how to reduce the paperwork burden without impacting on the quality of service for frontline officers and citizens and ‘Meeting the Security Challenge’ which uncovers how to meet the demands of secure communication using Cable & Wireless’ new PNN3 model. (Taking the Paperwork out of Policing, 12.00-12.45, Thursday 9th July, Seminar Theatre 1 and Meeting the Security Challenge 12.00-12.45, Wednesday 8th July, Seminar Theatre 1).
