FiReControl's role in using local knowledge to be discussed at BAPCO 2009
The role the FiReControl project will play in helping to capture and preserve local knowledge and enhance the emergency response will be the topic for discussion at BAPCO 2009 for EADS Defence and Security.
Senior Fire and Rescue Service Adviser Dennis Davies will be giving an update in the main conference hall on the project and also explaining how the new solution will, for the first time, allow control rooms to draw on centrally-held data that will inform the fire-fighting response.
Dennis, who is a former Chief Fire Officer and Head of Her Majesty’s Fire Service Inspectorate for Scotland, will explain how information such as road names and other local information will be stored centrally and can be accessed by the new nine networked Regional Control Centres (RCCs) In the past, this local data was often memorised by control room staff and so the new solution will be an important step forward in ensuring all staff have access to vital information.
New Project Director Roger Diggle will be present at the EADS DS stand to give an update on the progress of the project. “FiReControl will ensure all Fire and Rescue Service areas have the best technology that is currently available and will provide them with the information needed to respond appropriately to an incident,” said Roger. “The fact that the data will now be stored centrally will ensure that control room staff across the country will have access to the same data.”
Other main features of the solution include caller location and system positioning equipment in appliances that will allow the RCCs to determine which fire appliances are closest to the incident in terms of travel time by road and with the right capabilities to tackle the incident.
Where roads do not have names, the GIS and mapping data will provide enough detail for a control room operator to question the caller and mobilise to that location as appropriate. The system will enable the staff to mobilise the nearest available appropriate resources automatically, using data transmission, not voice messages.Patrice Simon, a project manager with EADS Defence and Security in France will also be speaking at conference to give an update on Project Chorist and how the project is integrating communications for enhanced environment risk management and citizen safety.
