Fortek to provide integrated mobile data for six command and control systems in Scotland
Fortek Computers awarded contract to work alongside Airwave to provide an integrated mobile data solution for the six Fortek fire service command and control systems deployed across Scotland. The deployment will enable a faster response in the area through improved fire command efficiency.
Airwave offers a variety of solutions to support end-to-end communication between frontline public safety professionals and control rooms. The Airwave service is a secure digital radio network designed, built and maintained by Airwave and dedicated for the exclusive use of the UK’s emergency and public safety services.
A contract was awarded to Airwave in March 2006 to deliver a modern and highly resilient radio system for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services (FRSs) and their counterparts in England and Wales. It will replace the FRSs’ current patchwork of radio systems with a new system offering higher levels of resilience and functionality necessary to support the types of national and local emergencies for which we must prepare. It will also bring the FRSs onto the same system used by other blue light services, thereby facilitating better cross service communication.
The Fortek interface, which will be implemented in six of the eight fire command and control systems across Scotland, will allow for the simultaneous operation of VISION FX or Fires CMS7, which are already supplied by Fortek, with the Airwave network to enable a streamlined and efficient radio mobilisation and resource update network.
Airwave’s Head of Client Managers, David Henson, said, “We’re delighted to be working alongside Fortek. Their interface will enable many more operations including Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) technology, which will significantly improve resource mobilisation and will result in information being far more effectively delivered between the control room and mobile units including officers.”
Alan Hall, Sales Director, Fortek Computers added, “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded the contract by Airwave. We see this contract as evidence of Fortek’s ongoing commitment to the Scottish Fire Services. All control rooms currently using VISION FX or CMS7 will be able to use the common technology to offer the public an enhanced service and we are currently in discussions to see how the software can be exploited further for maximum interoperability.”
