Success in SW region of BAPCO

Published:
21 March, 2006

Just over 30 delegates attended the SW and South Wales region event held on the 16 February.

The topic of the day covered the impact and analysis for the regions with presentations from the ambulance, fire & rescue and police services. In addition, delegates were treated to a discussion covering Post ECN – What next?

Following a break for lunch and the opportunity for delegates to gain ‘hands on’ experience from a selection of products exhibited by 7 commercial members of BAPCO the afternoon proved even more thought provoking.

Presentations were made on Multi roaming mobile systems,Mobility for emergency service applications and national call handling. In addition, the SW & South Wales region held its AGM.

Commenting on the event,Tracey Quinn,Secretary for the region and event organiser said,"The speakers and programme proved a huge success and I am currently analysing the 17 feedback forms that I received on the day."

Quinn added that she had already received a number of comments from delegates such as,“A well organised and interesting event" "Thank you, this was a valuable update and opportunity to network" "An interesting and worthwhile event" "Very useful"Continuing Quinn said,"It seems that all the presentations were what the delegates wanted in one way or another - keeping abreast of rapid changes needs a platform to shareinformation which I believe BAPCO is well placed to do this and these regional events are the ideal medium."

Overall one of the key points that came out of the event was the over-riding agreement from delegates that each tend to work "in our own patch" yet communications and information technology has an impact across organisations and geographical boundaries. “We cannot work in isolation!” Echoing the view that we should consider what impact technology installations have on our neighbours if we are to work toward a unified strategy.

The venue itself proved of great interest to a number of delegates, since, interestingly the Loop Centre is a disaster recovery centre and the manager Liz Swift was very accommodating in showing attendees the facilities on offer.

BAPCO has also planned a further three events this month.

March 7,sees the E Mids & Anglian region host an event,March 8, the NW & North Wales region and March 15, for the Scottish region. Full details on each event can be obtained from admin.sao@bapco.org.uk
