Deadline to apply for Airwave Sharers’ list approaches
Applicants have until the end of the month to apply for access to Airwave
network
The clock is ticking for public safety organisations in the UK to apply for access to the Airwave TETRA network. Every year Ofcom offers organisations a two month window to apply for Airwave ‘sharer status’, which is the first step within the government approvals process that all organisations wishing to access the Airwave TETRA network must comply with.
The Ofcom window for new sharer applicants has been open since the beginning of September and any organisation wishing to be on the sharers’ list must seek approval by the end of October.
The sharers' list is administered by Ofcom and is a list of emergency services and public safety agencies that are eligible to access the Airwave TETRA network. For a successful application, organisations must demonstrate their public safety remit and emergency communication requirements. Following a successful application, the organisation can then work with Airwave to develop the communication solutions to meet the specific needs of its organisation.
The application is designed by the Government to help assess the public safety nature of the organisation’s responsibilities and the application form with further information can be found on Ofcom's website.
