PageOne, a messaging technology company, has announced the launch of an open source Moodle module that allows Moodle Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) users access to its JANET txt messaging service.

The new plug-in called Moodlemobile has been developed in conjunction with Kidderminister College and allows users to send and receive text msessages directly within Moodle, using the JANET txt messaging service. JANET txt is a secure SMS-based messaging service provided by PageOne for JANET to aid the education and research of communities within the UK. The MoodleMobile gives the ability to message any existing contact or contact group simultaneously, so information can be distributed quickly.

Chris Jones, CEO, PageOne said, “Messaging has grown to be an increasingly effective communication tool amongst schools, colleges and universities. We are delighted by the response we have received so far from members of the education community, and look forward to further developments planned for MoodleMobile over the coming months”.
