JANUARY 2008

Would you believe it; 2008 already!

Looking back on 2007, I am happy to report that the year was a very interesting and successful year for BAPCO with both the annual Conference/Exhibition and the Road Shows being given the ‘thumbs up’ for both content and presentation in the feedback that we received.

However a new year, with new challenges, is upon us and I would like to think that we can move on and make this year more successful than ever in providing services for our members and Public Safety and public safety in general.

The question is; how do we measure success? I would suggest that success for BAPCO be measured by providing information and representation on National and International public safety groups and forums that make sure users views and requirements are part of the decision making process where ever Public Safety issues are being discussed.

We are currently represented on more of these groups than ever and the opinions and views of BAPCO are being sought more and more by decision makers both nationally and in Europe. We see this as a very positive trend that means user’s opinions are well represented.

The one area I would like to see developed is for members and or non members to make use of the facility that the Journal affords to provide a medium to engage in debate or simply share information by submitting articles or letters for publication. I am sure that this could be developed into a very useful and informative service for members to help them deliver a better service to the public by making sure that all good practise and ideas are shared and debated.

I am confident that if one person puts their head above the parapet and submits an article or letter that is informative or, dare I say it, even contentious, that others will take up the challenge. In our profession we are not usually backward at coming forward and expressing an opinion. So, pick up a pen, or, to be more modern, open up a Word document on your computer/Blackberry, and get typing!

I must take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who have given their time and expertise to the organisation over the past year. We must always remember that all give their time free of charge and more often than not have very demanding and time consuming day jobs and I am very grateful for all their efforts and commitment.

At this time of year I would also like to highlight the work done over the past year by our Executive Director and his team and publicly thank them for all their hard work on behalf of the Association and, on a personal note, for all the help and assistance that they have provided me during the past year.

This may now be an appropriate time to remind all members that Ken, Tracey and Paul are more than happy and willing to help members with any questions or information or any other help that they require.

Also, I again remind all members that both the regional committees and Executive team are there to help and support members and are pleased to answer any questions or provide any other information that is asked for.
