Nationwide TETRA public safety radio network installed in record time

EADS Defence & Security delivered and installed in record time the Estonian nationwide TETRA public safety radio network, which was officially taken into service yesterday (3 December 2007)

EADS Defence & Security recently delivered the Estonian nationwide TETRA radio network for public safety and the official opening of the network was made yesterday in Tallinn by Mr. Jüri Pihl, Estonian Minister of Internal Affairs.

The Estonian Public Safety Digital Mobile Trunked Radio Network (EDTN) is the 33rd nationwide or large-scale network delivered by EADS Secure Networks (SN), an integrated line of business of EADS Defence & Security (DS).

The roll-out was completed within 11 months and surpassed the agreed network coverage requirements. EDTN is believed to be the only national authority network whose turnkey roll-out has been implemented this quickly.

One essential success factor was the efficient information sharing system on an EADS Extranet. This tool fostered the sharing of all the information between the customer, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia, the EADS SN network planning team in France, the EADS SN project management team in Finland and subcontractors.

EADS SN won in late 2006 this turnkey contract to design, procure and construct a country wide radio communications network for Estonian authorities.

Users of the network will include the police, border guards, rescue services, and other organisations responsible for public safety. These agencies will now be able to receive the same information and messages securely and simultaneously which will significantly improve their efficiency.

Besides, as Finland and Sweden are already using TETRA radio communications networks provided by EADS SN, the cross-border cooperation in the Baltic Sea area is now clearly facilitated and security in this area will consequently be further improved. “EADS Secure Networks is proud to contribute to the European network for security forces and emergency services and is pleased to deliver its promise to its Estonian customer” said Jean-Marc Nasr, President of EADS Secure Networks.
