Chief Executives: Your Role in Civil Protection
Who Should Attend: Local authority Chief Executives.While deputy Chief Executives and Senior Officers are welcome to attend, they are only eligible for this course once their Principal has already attended.
Aim: To explore the strategic issues that may confront a Local Authority in an emergency and the duties and responsibilities placed upon Chief Executives by the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
Objectives: By the end of this event you will be able to:
Relate the concept of Integrated Emergency Management to the role of a Local Authority, as a single Category One responder and in partnership with other agencies
Identify the duties placed upon Local Authorities by the Civil Contingencies Act and critically evaluate your authority’s progress in meeting those Outline the role of a Chief Executive in leading the Local Authority response to an Emergency situation Identify and prioritise the strategic issues that may arise and require attention during an emergency.
Benefits to the Organisation: This event prepares delegates for their leadership role in an emergency.
Style of the Event: Knowledge of the broad contexts of civil protection and resilience will help elected members to be more effective in representing their communities and councils. This will apply during the phases of planning for, responding to and recovering from emergencies.
