SELEX Communications for the security of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Uganda

The daunting task of protecting people and infrastructure during troubled times implies providing public safety and security forces with advanced communications technology. Due to the strategic role that SELEX Communications plays both domestically and internationally, the company was able to offer the Uganda Police with the technology and support they needed to protect the event and for day by day operations for the security of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which will take place from the 23rd to the 25th of November 2007, in Uganda.

SELEX Communications will supply the Uganda Police with an integrated “turn-key” communication solution comprised of a TETRA (acronym for TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) system and of four Super Fast Patrolling Boats for secure voice and data communications. Equipped with the most advanced communication systems, the four vessels will be used for patrolling the Vittoria Lake during the event.

Thanks to the radio mobile coverage guaranteed by the TETRA system, the vessels will be able to communicate with the Police Forces, therefore contributing at increasing the efficiency in performing particular operational needs and in improving security.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is a biennial summit by the Presidents, Prime Ministers and Heads of State of over 50 countries that adherent to the Commonwealth, who meet in order to discuss and develop common policies and initiatives. From the 23rd to the 25th, even the Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, will honour the meeting with her presence. During those days, the security oriented communication solutions of SELEX Communications will be called up to contribute for a safe course of the event.
