September 2009 Address
I sit down to write this column, having just returned from the APCO conference and exhibition held in Las Vegas. The event was staged on an American scale and was well supported by delegates and exhibitors alike. his year’s conference celebrated the 75th anniversary of the formation of APCO. During the conference I took the opportunity to learn more about the history of APCO; for those like me who were unaware, APCO have partnered with an academic institution to establish an historic archive of its long history, some of this material being made available on the web (www.apcohistory.org).
BAPCO PRESIDENT’S FOREWORD FOR BAPCO JOURNAL
JANUARY 2008
Would you believe it; 2008 already!
Looking back on 2007, I am happy to report that the year was a very interesting and successful year for BAPCO with both the annual Conference/Exhibition and the Road Shows being given the ‘thumbs up’ for both content and presentation in the feedback that we received.
President's Address
The last month has been a very difficult time in the public safety arena, highlighted by the sad events faced by the Warwickshire FRS which resulted in the loss of life of firefighters and I am sure that you will all join me in expressing our condolences to the families and colleagues of the firefighters that were lost in their line of duty. This is a timely reminder not to take for granted the contributions that staff involved in delivering public safety face every day.
A common theme - investment in communications
As this issue goes to press, in representing BAPCO I am attending the APCO Canada conference in Calgary.
Planning and responding for the good of public safety
The time of the year is fast approaching when the Executive Committee meet with the Regional Chairs and Secretaries to discuss future plans and discuss any changes that we feel need to take place to both enable the association to carry out its current role as a leader in Public Safety communications and IT advisors and also update the longer term plans for the Association. I would urge all of our members to pass on any thoughts or observations that they have to their regional representatives for discussion and assist the Executive in delivering the aims and objectives of the Organisation. This year the meeting will take place on the 19th and 20th September and I urge anyone with ideas or thoughts that may be relevant to let us know.
New Technologies and Next Generation TETRA Applications
Having just returned from two very interesting and informative days at the TETRA World Congress in Madrid, my thoughts turned to thinking about the next generation of TETRA technology.
Facilitating opportunities for true interoperability
Well another BAPCO Exhibition and Conference has come and gone and the initial feedback from exhibitors and attendees is very positive both around the conference content and just as importantly, the ability to network. The event organisers are still collating the feedback and results will be communicated in the near future.
