Building A Clear Picture Of Vehicle Crime
During 2005-2006 there were more than 1.7 million reported vehicle related thefts – from vehicles being broken into and items taken, to the vehicles actually being taken.
Gathering information and collecting intelligence are key to catching vehicle criminals, and how this data is used can make all the difference when dealing with a case.
Being able to identify vehicle hotspot areas enables police to resource those areas effectively and being able to establish the most vulnerable makes and models of vehicles being targeted by thieves allows police to give directed safety messages.
Used by around 30 police forces in the UK, i2’s Analyst’s Workstation allows police forces to quickly gain insights into crime patterns and trends, which in turn, means they can effectively allocate resources and tackle the problems they face.
Paul Holroyd, general manager at i2, said: “Being able to build a clear picture of the vehicle crime activity allows forces to ensure they are resourcing effectively in order to reduce the criminal activity.
“Being able to break down the information into the make and model of vehicles, the times and locations of offences, combined with the ability to compare the modus operandi, puts police forces in a very strong position.”
Analyst’s Workstation incorporates the award-winning i2 Analyst’s Notebook, iBase and Data Miner, which allows intelligence analysts to search data across disparate databases within their organisation, to gain the full picture of vehicle crime in the area.
