Virgin Media Business bids for public sector savings
Virgin Media Business – previously known as ntl:Telewest Business – has been launched today, with the aim of helping the public sector realise the £3bn in efficiency savings set out in the Government’s pre-budget report.
The company has set out a strategy to make it a distinct alternative to BT. Already heavily involved with the PSN through its work with The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership, it will maintain focussed investment in the quality, security and resiliency of its Next Generation Network. Alongside this Virgin Media Business will focus on developing its Ethernet services to underpin high speed, secure shared services and support a move towards multi-channel citizen engagement.
To help organisations put in place telecoms that deliver engaging, efficient public services quicker, the company has pledged to continue to advance its customer service and network capabilities through ongoing and significant investment.
With 40 offices located across the UK, Virgin Media Business claims it will be able to deliver a highly personalised service to mid-market enterprises and the public sector.
Jos Creese, Hampshire County Council's Head of IT, says: "The venture we are undertaking is the first of its kind in the UK. It is extremely important that our telecoms partner understands our challenges and goals and is in it for the long haul. Virgin Media Business’ approach and values have been spot on throughout. As well as being genuinely supportive of our ambitions they’ve provided us with invaluable advice that has helped to shape the project and the future.”
Virgin Media Business has become the largest business-to-business company within the Virgin group, and will focus on maximising the commercial potential of its wholly-owned network. This network sets it apart from other business telecoms providers who do not own their own UK-wide access network infrastructure, and allows the company to innovate by bringing new services to the market.
