Scotland’s largest police service implements ABM’s Source Management solution

Strathclyde Police has gone live with the next generation of covert policing technology - abmpegasus Source Management – the covert human intelligence source (CHIS) management solution from criminal intelligence IT company, ABM.

The latest addition to Strathclyde Police's intelligence portfolio provides an updated management platform, ensuring that intelligence data is managed effectively through centralised data collation and control, thereby reducing the administrative time associated with the entire CHIS lifecycle. abmpegasus is the most advanced covert intelligence system available and enables Strathclyde Police to have a more centralised view of their entire covert intelligence estate, in addition to enabling valuable covert intelligence to be passed directly to the Scottish Intelligence Database (SID).

Detective Inspector Calum Glenny comments: "With our force comprising eight divisions serving a population of 2.3 million people, covert policing methods not only carry significant cost but can also fail to generate the required ‘intelligence'. Through ABM's next generation CHIS management module, the ability to effectively manage covert human intelligence sources will be significantly increased, delivering better value for the Force and the public."

"As the force has been successfully using ABM products for the past five years, the decision was made to replace the existing PIMS system with the abmpegasus platform," said DI Glenny. "This was a challenging project and both parties worked together in true partnership to ensure that the project was delivered on time and to budget."

Commenting on the system going live, Sue Grewcock, Professional Services Director of ABM United Kingdom Limited, says: "We are delighted that Strathclyde Police are continuing to maintain their proactive approach to Covert Intelligence policing by moving forward with the next generation of covert platforms. The new abmpegasus framework will provide increased efficiency and results for the intelligence community within Strathclyde Police."

Strathclyde Police's recent deployment of Source Management continues their drive to install additional modules of the abmpegasus suite standardising on process and technology to deliver results.
