World first as eight ICT professionals gain new qualification
Eight information technology professionals from the RAF, BT, Dover Harbour Board and Hong Kong will make history as they become the first in the world to receive the new ICTTech professional qualification.
Currently only awarded by the IET, ICTTech was launched in January following industry demands for a competence-based professional qualification for IT and communications technicians.
The very first individual to receive ICTTech is Corporal Dan Hunt from the RAF. He said, “Being recognised by a professional body for the training I have undertaken and the skills I have gained is a wonderful thing. IT specialists have been overlooked for a long time in the engineering environment and the new professional recognition of ICTTech is hopefully just the start.”
Michelle Richmond, IET Director of Membership and Professional Development, said, “We are delighted to award the first batch of ICT Technician qualifications. This is the culmination of months of hard work. Successful ICTTech registration provides individuals with professional recognition. It will help employers to identify ICT practitioners who hold the skills they need while also recognising technical expertise, greatly strengthening professionalism and ethical practice in a key sector of employment.”
Chris Earnshaw, IET President, added, “We live in a world where we are dependant on ICT and the people maintaining and delivering information and communication services. ICT is responsible for underpinning the infrastructure that enables the very fabric of society and our quality of life and, of course, the security of all of us."
