New command and control system for Avon Fire & Rescue
Avon Fire & Rescue Service selects the latest version of command and control incident management system from Fortek Computers, VISON FX, to manage increased number of inbound calls as it prepares to integrate with Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.
The solution will enable Avon Fire & Rescue Service to handle inbound calls on behalf of Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service’s two control rooms, in addition to its own usual call volume, during operator training for the proposed Regional Control integration. VISION FX will enable data from all three control rooms to be prepared for integration into Regional Control, making the transition to the new system quicker and easier once it goes ahead.
Bob Smith, Control Manger, Avon Fire & Rescue Service, said, “we currently handle 20,000 incident calls and 38,000 emergency calls per year, which will more than double once we take over Devon and Somerset’s two control room calls; subsequently, we will be recruiting an extra 18 temporary operators to facilitate this.” He continues, “The VISION FX system from Fortek will play an integral role in ensuring we have the infrastructure in place to do this seamlessly.”
VISION FX is already compliant with many Government initiatives that are being introduced as part of the Regional Control project. George Godliman, Managing Director, Fortek Computers, comments, “The project at Avon Fire & Rescue Service is effectively using the regional control model to ensure interoperability while training for the move is progressed. The VISION FX system allows the transition to be a much simpler and smoother process.”
