The Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen has launched the first ever course specialising in biometric security systems in response to the growing need for biometric experts. The course, entitled ‘MSc intelligent Biometric Security Systems’, aims to bridge the gap between the supply and demand of skilled personnel in the biometrics and security industry.

Dr Ann Reddipogu from the School of Engineering at RGU said, "Identifying humans using biometrics is particularly attractive to businesses involved in security. Whereas physical items such as security cards, keys and passwords can be lost or stolen, the biometric identifier is unique to each individual. Students will analyse current problems in security and surveillance systems, and develop and implement novel methods to solve these issues."

In addition to their studies students will have the opportunity to gain industry experience by working with biometrics companies during their MSc project stage. It is hoped graduates from the course will be in high demand from many industries looking for staff with skills in intelligent systems, biometrics, video communications, computer network security and forensic analysis.
