Northgate launches new and improved gazetteer

Northgate Information Solutions, providers of services to the public sector and utilities markets, has launched a new system designed to support the emergency services when responding to incidents.

The new system is based around major enhancements Northgate has made to its corporate gazetteer, recognised by the Home Office as the national standard for police forces, to provide police, ambulance and fire and rescue services with a state of the art system for managing location based information.

Linking datasets under the Mapping Service Agreement (MSA) from both non-MSA sources and non-addressable locations like car parks, a single dataset of information is far more efficient to the emergency services. Furthermore a powerful new search facility enables the fast analysis of information, such as identifying all people with the same name within a given area, where previously information would be found and analysed manually.

Ian Blackhurst, Managing Director of Criminal Justice & Public Safety at Northgate Information Solutions, said: “The emergency services are under increasing pressure to speed up response times and deliver more efficient and effective services to the public. The sheer volume of data they hold can often hamper rather than support their operations. Providing police forces, fire and rescue services and ambulance trusts with a single powerful source of location information will mean more accurate data, improved analysis and a faster response.”
